Presenting ... "Erasal (waag_rel046)" by Red Pools

----------

Three tracks of caustic city-driven technoustica, built from the minutia of old session recordings, hauntological cassette tapes of unknown origin, recombinant soundscapes, extracted percussion, and the processed ghosts of sound objects inhabiting the spaces I come into contact with.

Source material recorded, tracks composed and performed to create this record July 2013-Feb 2014.

My sincere thanks to:
Impossibility Knox (Gwilly Edmondez, Dario Lozano-Thornton, Elaine Cheng, Esme Baker, Meena Daneshyar, Greta Buitkute) - used in Graulhet.
Anonymous eBay seller who sent me a Microcassette of gorgeous classical music I don't know with his old player - used in Senseless Part 1.
The band I don't know that accidentally made the ceiling of a warehouse shake in time to a song I was writing while I was in sheffield – used in Senseless Part 2.
Unknown singers, songwriters whose vinyl records were smashed and recombined – used in Cyclomatic.
Incidental performers in any samples i've recorded in public places.
Thomas Mathie, Wolfgang Merx and Basdriver for being on the ball and releasing this despite adversity.
The WAAG community for listening and downloading.

Presenting ... "Into The Dark | volume ii (waag_rel045)" by Cousin Silas

Into The Dark | volume ii (waag_rel045) is the second in a trilogy of dark, atmospheric, and rather sinister sounding ambient albums from my dear friend and everyone's favourite hoarder of electric guitars, Cousin Silas.

In keeping with the first volume (waag_rel038), this is an album where Cousin Silas goes back to his darker ambient roots. It continues down the deliciously dark and deeply atmospheric rabbit-hole that waag_rel038 started down ... back before Christmas.

Six tracks of longish form darker ambient soundscapes that feed the imagination and inspire the dreaming of dreams ... as a recent HuffPo article discussed, daydreaming is an important tool for creativity:
"Creative types know, despite what their third-grade teachers may have said, that daydreaming is anything but a waste of time."

Cousin Silas' music helps my mind to wander into places and spaces it wouldn't necessarily find on it's own ... and I will always be indebted to him for this.

I hope you enjoy this album as much as I do ... and do what I have done and add both albums into a playlist so I can consume them together.

An MP3 version of this album is available for free on Archive or a lossless version available here for 'pay what you want' which does include £0.

We are currently exploring options for a physical Cousin Silas release. Any funds raised by Into The Dark | volume ii (waag_rel045) will go towards this.

If you do decide to download this album for free then all we ask in return is that you tell your friends, tweet a link or post it on Facebook, write a review and spread the word.

We will post more information regarding the physical release in due course but for now ... enjoy Into The Dark | volume ii (waag_rel045).

- Tx

PS the release of this album accidentally coincides with Cousin Silas' son's wedding ... congratulations and best wishes to the beloved couple!!! ... and no, I'm not talking about Silas and his Telecaster.

Presenting ... "drone.excursion.001 (waag_dex001)" aka 'the choral drone' by Scott Lawlor

I have a lot of love for Scott Lawlor's music and was delighted to be approached by him to release his 'drone.excursion' series of longform drones.

Inspired by the work of Cousin Silas, Lawlor is going on his own journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes ... and I am proud to support him in this endeavour.

drone.excursion.001 (waag_dex001) aka 'the choral drone' is an intense vocal-orientated piece that reminds me of György Ligeti's "Atmospheres", a piece that is famous for being featured in Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

On the Wikipedia page for "Atmospheres", reference is made to a comment Harold Kaufman made about the piece:
"Music collapses foreground and background elements of musical structure into a 'magma of evolving sound'"
I believe this to be also true of the work Lawlor has achieved with drone.excursion.001 (waag_dex001) ... is a rich, intense piece that envelopes the listener with a sense of timelessness and rewards with repeated listens.

I really do hope you will enjoy this piece as much as I have.

An MP3 version of this piece is available for free on Archive or a lossless version available on Bandcamp for 'pay what you want' which does include £0 ... and remember, paying supporters on Bandcamp also get unlimited mobile access to the album using the free Bandcamp listening app.

If you do decide to download this piece for free then all we ask in return is that you tell your friends, tweet a link or post it on Facebook, write a review and spread the word.

Presenting ... "Dronescape 016 (waag_drs016)" by Cousin Silas

I was recently asked what I get out of running a wee netlabel ... I replied almost immediately: I help bring beauty to this world.

I'm not a musician. I wish I was but I am not. Neither am I an artist in the pen-and-paper / paint-and-canvas kind of way. Again, I wish I was but I am not. Whilst I am kind of handy with a camera and have a thing for arranging typefaces on images, the way I bring beauty to this world is to help musicians like Cousin Silas get their sounds out there.

I don't believe there will ever be too much music out there ... and I certainly do NOT think there can be too much Cousin Silas in circulation. I simply adore his dronescapes and welcome each one with the kind of frenzy usually reserved for rock stars. Dronescape 016 is no exception.

The 16th Dronescape is an exercise in feeling and in restraint ... where being present in the moment is paramount and nothing is added to detract from this.

I hope you will enjoy this addition to Cousin Silas' extensive canon of drones as much as I do. I also hope you will return to it, as I do, time and again.

An MP3 version of this album is available for free on Archive or a lossless version available here for 'pay what you want' which does include £0.

We are currently exploring options for a physical Cousin Silas release ... albeit progress has been hampered by my recent illness. Any funds raised by 016 will go towards this.

If you do decide to download this album for free then all we ask in return is that you tell your friends, tweet a link or post it on Facebook, write a review and spread the word.

We will post more information regarding the physical release in due course but for now ... enjoy 016.
